Juan Logan Studio, Durham, NC

Item: Juan Logan is participating as a contributing artist at the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Project in Wilson, NC and Joe Justice and I had the privilege of visiting his studio and seeing how his artist stretchers are built. This is an eye opener. It is also a glimpse at a big stage top tier working studio and mediums and a close up the life and times of the person. Apropos to this story is the puzzle pieces that are central to artist and revelations to his large scale installations. Here we are on Hood St. in Durham with Juan Logan.
Take a look at this. Juan found this at Boone's in Wilson and it is the beginning of a mystification. This item is numbered on each end and the center groove might have fixed it's position in a machine or jig used for production. I'm thinking some kind of form or pattern for a mold for the like of a British Colonial "Steampunk" style pith helmet seen below.
