Friday Foray - The Promise

Location, Beckley, WV - There is nothing like a walk among the dead to feel alive, and a rainbow? In Beckley, WV has and artisan center Tamarack nearby, and the miners museum, and Starbucks at the travelers rest. In this cemetery stands memorials and grave markers that are genuine works of art and herein lie the early miners and timber workers that opened up this wild and wonderful land in a great land of promise. Many of these came from Italy and Europe and with the language barrier were known only but the numbered medallion worn around their necks but forgotten now. Herein also is an Islamic section with the customary adornments and incense and where one evening I watched from a distance while a body was ceremoniously layed in a shallow dug grave and wrapped only in a shroud. Beauty and art and history and creativity and ceremony and forgotten past and Starbucks and a rainbow. Comfort all around. To see more about Tamarack visit http://www.tamarackwv.com/
